Ice out at Quinsigamond
· Nadia Okafor
The lake outside Worcester freezes in most winters, and the day the last ice goes out is a small holiday around here. It also marks the week that our phone, which does not ring, would ring if it could.
Golfers come out of winter with a set of stiff hands, a stiffer back and clubs that have spent three months in a garage. Grips harden. Heads rust.
A spring check
Wipe each grip and press it with a thumbnail. If it does not give, it is done. Look down each clubface for rust or a dent. Check the lie by holding the club at address.
Bring the bag in. We will tell you what it needs, and what it does not.
